Laboratory consumables are the most consumed utensils in the experimental process, and there is a wide variety of them. They are divided into three categories according to the material of consumables: glass, plastic and metal, among which plastic is more and more widely used for its excellent performance and convenience in forming. Common materials include the following categories:
PP Polypropylene
Translucent, chemical and temperature stability is good, feel than PE hardness, can be used at about 100 degrees, but low temperature becomes brittle, not wear-resistant, easy to age, corrosion resistance, common acid, alkali organic solvents on it almost no effect.
PE Polyethylene
Opaque, tough, anti-ageing, light, non-leaking, soft, non-reactive with acetone, acetic acid, hydrochloric acid, etc., more stable, easily softened at high temperatures.
FEP Fluorinated ethylene propylene copolymer
Transparent heat resistance is slightly lower, can work at -85 degrees +205 degrees for a long time, short-term at -200 degrees ~ +300 degrees; high impact strength, creep resistance, crystallinity varies with heat treatment temperature, good molding processability; non-toxic, non-stick, electrical insulation, wear resistance, chemical stability; can be coloured, waste can be recycled.
PS Polystyrene
Transparent, hard, with a glass transition temperature above 100°C, stable to most aqueous solutions but corrosive to many organic substances.
PC Polycarbonate
It has high strength and elasticity, high impact strength, good transparency, hardness and can be sterilised at high temperatures, but it is not resistant to strong acids and alkalis and some organic solvents such as alcohol.
PFA Perfluoroalkoxy alkanes
It is known as the “King of Plastics”.
Its transparency, high temperature resistance, corrosion resistance, non-stick properties, low friction surface and high tensile strength make this material ideal for use in trace analysis, isotope analysis, ICP-MS/OES/AAS analysis, semiconductor experiments, chemical and pharmaceutical industries.
Our wide range of PFA products are used by many of the world’s leading semiconductor manufacturers and their support industries in all aspects of the semiconductor process, and are a guarantee of high quality. Its main products are acid purifiers, ICP-MS nebulisers and other laboratory instruments made of PFA.
The above are the common materials used for laboratory consumables. As people become more aware of self-protection, fragile glass consumables are gradually being replaced by plastic as the common material for consumables.
Here are parts of our laboratory consumables:
