Designed for demanding mechanochemical applications, this PFA Mechanochemical Reaction Vessel provides an excellent combination of thermal stability, chemical resistance, and a relatively soft reaction surface. It is particularly suitable for mechanocatalytic reactions where conventional metal vessels may cause unwanted abrasion or contamination from the vessel wall.
The vessel was developed to meet the requirements of mechanochemical reactions performed at elevated temperatures, including applications such as mechanocatalytic Heck reactions.

Material selection is particularly important in mechanochemical reactions because the vessel is exposed to repeated mechanical impact, friction, elevated temperatures, and potentially aggressive chemical conditions.
Although PTFE offers many desirable properties, recent studies have reported partial depolymerization of PTFE under certain mechanochemical conditions. Reduced durability of PTFE vessels has also been observed in our own testing. Therefore, PFA was selected as a more suitable material for this application, offering the required combination of chemical resistance, thermal stability, and mechanical durability.
